You won't find a City here, but you will find The Corporation of Delta, a municipality as unique as its name.
Why Delta is The Corporation of Delta
Delta was established by Letters Patent in 1879 as a District Municipality and given its present name The Corporation of Delta.
This designation was based on Delta’s population density and geographic size at the time. While all municipalities are legal corporations, Delta is the only municipality in BC that actually calls itself “The Corporation”.
As part of Canada’s 150 Anniversary celebrations that will take place in 2017, Delta Council recently authorized staff to contact the Ministry of Community, Sport and Cultural Development to determine the process and costs involved in reclassifying Delta from a District Municipality to a City. Staff will report back to Council in early 2017 outlining the process to amend Delta’s name and the benefits of a City designation.
