Free Sustainable Workshops

Free Sustainable Workshops are back for 2024! Delta residents can register for free gardening and green living workshops to help create a more sustainable community. Our local instructors will teach you how to grow your own food, care for your garden, harvest honey, and more! Workshops are held in North Delta and South Delta starting in the spring. Workshops are free, but registration is required.

Lawns are a part of nearly every suburban garden. In this workshop, we’ll explore what lawns are good for and some reasons why we may want to grow less of them. You’ll learn what options are available if you decide to decrease your lawn, Earth-friendly ways of caring for the lawn you do have, and what to do when things go sideways – like animals digging for grubs.

Plant Walk at Watershed Park

Join us on a plant walk through Watershed Park with Adrian Avendaño, the Executive Director of the Invasive Species Council of Metro Vancouver. This guided tour will introduce you to the significance of native species, as well as the presence of non-native and invasive plants within the park. By the session's conclusion, you'll grasp the distinctions between native, non-native, and invasive plants, understanding their impacts and roles within our ecosystems. Gain practical knowledge on identifying these plants and learn about some of their cultural uses.

Resilient Gardens - Surviving Drought, Heat, Storms, and Cold

Join us for this workshop taught by Rhiannon Johnson to learn how to set your garden up to be resilient to variations and extremes in weather and to adapt your food garden to a changing climate. Whether it be dryer hotter summers, or weeks of cold snaps in the winter, or fluctuating temperatures, rainfall, and snowfall, learn gardening techniques to help make your veggie garden more resilient to extreme weather events (storms, cold snaps, heat waves, drought) and hotter and colder conditions.
