Council received a presentation from Denis Horgan, Vice President and General Manager, Westshore Terminals regarding coal dust suppression and Westshore Terminals’ capital program.
On July 24, 2013, Mayor Lois E. Jackson and Councillor Ian L. Paton, accompanied by Delta’s Manager of Bylaw Enforcement, Mr. Hugh Davies, attended a community-organized meeting to discuss the impact of blueberry cannons on local residents. Approximately 150 people attended the meeting to share information and exchange ideas.
Mayor Lois E. Jackson made a special presentation to Antony Tsui, winner of the 2013 Heritage Commission Scholarship. Mr. Tsui won the scholarship worth $750 for his website entitled The Deltan Century –DSS Celebrating 100 Years. The website documents the 2012-2013 school year, the 100th anniversary of Delta Secondary School. Mayor Jackson also acknowledged Sarah Strukoff for receiving an honourable mention for her essay, The Westham Island Bridge.
On July 5, 2013, Mayor Lois E. Jackson was pleased to attend and speak at an event celebrating 80% completion of the South Fraser Perimeter Road. In addition, dignitaries from the Federal and Provincial Governments and the Delta Farmers Institute spoke, conveying the many benefits of the South Fraser Perimeter Road. Following the celebration, Scott Hamilton, MLA for Delta North invited the Honourable Todd Stone, Minister of Transportation and Infrastructure to Delta Municipal Hall for a discussion with Mayor Lois E. Jackson on important issues of interest to Delta.
On July 4, 2013 Mayor Lois E. Jackson and Fire Chief Dan Copeland unveiled Delta’s newest fire apparatus – Ladder 6, a 105 foot aerial truck and Wildland 2, a combination mini-pumper/wildland vehicle.
