Heritage Week 2014
Mayor Jackson commenced Heritage Week 2014 with an award presentation to the recipients of the Heritage Award of Merit and Friends of Heritage awards. The recipients of the Heritage Award of Merit, Steven Knoblauch of Ladner Baptist Church and Linda Park and Pierre Bonato of McCrea’s Pool Hall, were commended for their dedication to preserving Delta’s Heritage. Members of the Delta Heritage Fishing Committee were recognized with Friends of Heritage awards for their dedication to restoring aspects of Delta’s fishing history.


Telus presentation regarding Small Cell Technology
Council received a presentation from Telus regarding their Small Cell technology projects, including Telus’ ongoing and future expansion plans to install Small Cell technology to enhance mobile phone reception and coverage in Tsawwassen. View presentation


Soil Deposit & Removal Bylaw No. 7221
Council gave first, second and third readings to a new proposed bylaw that regulates soil deposit and removal activities in Delta. The two current soil deposit bylaws, one specific to all land in Delta and the other specific to agricultural land in Delta, have been amalgamated to form the proposed Bylaw No. 7221. View the staff report


Costs Related to the Processing of the Southlands Application
Council received a report itemizing the costs incurred by Delta in the processing of the Southlands application. The total cost incurred was $345,525, which covered the expenses of the Public Hearing, two Public Information Meetings hosted by Delta, two municipal Multi-Committee Meetings, miscellaneous supplies, legal costs, Community Planning and Development staff overtime, and consultant studies. In accordance with Delta’s bylaws, the applicant paid $43,381 in application fees. The expenses incurred by Delta were within Delta’s annual operating budget. View the staff report

2013 Parks Maintenance Vandalism Update     

Council received a report detailing vandalism incidents in Delta’s parks and costs incurred in 2013. There were 274 reported acts of vandalism in Delta’s parks in 2013, approximately 100 fewer incidents than in 2012. The total cost of park vandalism in 2013 was $64,891. View the staff report

Roberts Bank Terminal 2 Update
Council received an update on the Roberts Bank Terminal 2 project. The guidelines for the environmental impact assessment have been finalized, which means that Port Metro Vancouver now has the information needed to develop the environmental impact statement. Port Metro Vancouver does not anticipate being ready to submit the environmental impact statement for panel review until early 2015. In the meantime, Port Metro Vancouver is continuing its five-phase consultation process, which started in June 2011. View the staff report
