Calling all artists! The 3rd Annual Heritage Banner Design Contest is Now Open
Mar 30, 2016
Since 2014, The Corporation of Delta has brought together history and art as part of the Heritage Banner Design Contest. Using the opportunity to celebrate our local talent, the contest helps to raise awareness of Delta’s storied history and provides visibility to some of the incredible work from Delta’s artists. With this in mind, Delta is excited to announce the 3rd annual Heritage Banner Design Contest.
As part of the contests, residents are invited to design a heritage banner and submit it to one of the following categories:
- Digital Art
- Painting and Drawing, and
Entries will be evaluated for their creativity, visual appeal, art and design elements, and heritage value. A winner will be selected from each of the three categories (North Delta, South Delta, and Child/Youth), with one overall grand prize winner. The grand prize selection will be displayed on street banners throughout our community from January 2017 to May 2017, with each winner receiving a $350 honorarium and a street banner of their design.
The contest deadline is June 1. To enter, participants must complete an entry form, a waiver form (for artwork that contains people whose identities can be clearly discerned) and a one-sheet banner design submitted on DVD, CD, memory stick, or minimum 8 ½ X 11 photograph of non-digital artwork (e.g., collage, print, painting, or illustration). Unfortunately, due to system capacity limits, we are unable to accept email attachments.
Last year, South Delta’s Gary Nay won the grand prize for his submission Ours to Preserve, while Victoria Heryet, also from South Delta, won the inaugural contest in 2014 with her submission Symbiotic Harmony. Gary’s banner is currently on display throughout our community.
