Heritage Advisory Scholarship Award Winner

Jun 28, 2016

Mayor Lois E. Jackson, Delta Council and the Heritage Advisory Commission are pleased to announce Aidan Graham of South Delta Secondary School as the recipient of the 2016 Heritage Commission Scholarship.

Aidan submitted an ornamental yellow cedar paddle with a First Nations-style salmon carved and painted onto it. It represents the important role of both the salmon and the paddle in the lives of First Nations Peoples and later Delta immigrants.

The Delta Heritage Commission Scholarship is awarded annually to a graduating Delta secondary school student in an effort to encourage interest in local or regional heritage through the development of an original piece of work. As the winner, Aidan received $1,000 that he will be able to apply to his studies at Langara College, where he has been accepted in the fall to study business.

Mayor Lois E. Jackson presented the award certificate to Aidan Graham at the June 27, 2016 Regular Meeting of Council at Delta Municipal Hall. Congratulations to Aidan for his excellent project celebrating Delta’s past.
