For immediate release – July 12, 2017
Mayor Lois E. Jackson, Delta Council, Chief Administrative Officer George V. Harvie, Delta Police Chief Neil Dubord, and Fire Chief Dan Copeland approved the recommendation to send two Delta Police Officers, a Delta staff member, and a Delta Firefighter to assist in the relief effort for those affected by the wildfires in Central British Columbia.
These members will assist in the planning section of the Cariboo Regional District Emergency Operations Centre at Williams Lake. This recommendation was made in response to a request for Emergency Operations Centre Staff by Emergency Management BC.
Currently, there are 22 wildfires of note. The Cariboo Regional District EOC is currently dealing with 11 fires in the Williams Lake area.
Mayor Jackson and Delta Council are eager to assist the larger provincial community and continue to stand by for further deployment on request from the Provincial Emergency Program.
Our thoughts, prayers, and best wishes go out to all the first responders, equipment operators, and residents as they continue their valiant fight.
