G. MOTIONS ON NOTICE

(G.01) Whistleblower Protection Policy

Cllr. Kanakos provided the following Notice of Motion at the August 27, 2018 Regular Meeting for consideration at the September 17, 2018 Regular Meeting:

“WHEREAS Delta Council highly regards and supports Delta Staff and the challenging work they do;

WHEREAS the City of Delta does not have a current active Whistleblower Policy;

WHEREAS other Municipalities and organizations have initiated Whistleblower policies to protect staff who wish to come forward with information pertaining to questionable situations;

While the Provincial Government has recently enacted overarching legislation pertaining to Whistleblowers, it would be prudent for Delta Council to develop a ‘made in Delta’ policy to ensure staff feel protected in their jobs;

BE IT RESOVED that the City of Delta develop, in a timely manner, a Whistleblower Policy to protect staff who may wish to discuss difficult topics in a safe manner.”
