Three new recreation and social support programs will launch this spring and summer as part of Mayor Harvie and Delta Council’s new Delta Families First Initiative – a two-week advance program registration for Delta residents, an expanded free youth admission pass program, and a free nurse-led Baby Daze post-natal support program for new parents.
Delta Families First is an initiative launched by Mayor Harvie and Delta Council with the goal of investing in more sports, recreation and social health programs and amenities, for the benefit and well-being of Delta families.
“I want to help make living in Delta easier for families. These Delta Families First programs will do just that. As we monitor their success, we will continue to pursue more opportunities to support families in our community.” – Mayor George V. Harvie
The new two-week window of priority registration for Delta residents begins May 17 to correspond with the opening of registration for summer programs (limitations apply to ongoing and progressive programs). Advance registration will allow Delta families to more easily plan their participation in programs offered by Delta Parks, Recreation and Culture and avoid competing for program spots with people from outside of Delta.
The expanded free youth admission pass program is available July 1 and provides Delta youth between the ages of 10 to 18 and grades 5 to 12 with free admission to all City of Delta recreation facilities and any drop-in activities at these facilities. This program will provide close to 13,000 Delta youth with free access to Delta’s recreation facilities.
The City’s Baby Daze program begins July 3 and will be offered weekly at both North Delta Recreation Centre and South Delta Recreation Centre. Baby Daze is a free new program aimed at providing new parents with an inclusive environment to socialize their babies while receiving valuable support and insight from a qualified nurse.
