Mother’s Day Button Making Workshop

Saturday, May 11, 2 pm – 4 pm – George Mackie Library

Drop by during our Saturday afternoon workshop and leave with shiny new buttons.  You can create images inspired by your favourite books or your own artwork.  The library will provide all the materials (including discarded graphic novels and magazines) so all you need to bring are your ideas.

Cubetto Space Storytime

Friday, May 17, 10:30 – 11 am – Tsawwassen Library

It’s never too early to begin learning logic and coding!  Cubetto is a friendly wooden robot that teaches children the basics of computer programming through stories and activities.  We will read a special space story starring Cubetto and then children and caregivers will enjoy some interactive stories, songs, rhymes and more.  Screen free!

Intro to Magformers

Future engineers, let your creativity go wild as you explore FVRL’s latest STEAM tool, Magformers!  Discover the power of magnets in a safe environment as you build 3D shapes from the simple to the complex.  Walking robots, spinning spacecraft – the ideas are limitless!

Tech-Up with Ozobots

Wednesday, May 22, 3:30 pm – 4:30 pm – Ladner Pioneer Library

Meet the Ozobots – the pocket-sized robots that come with infinite ways to play, create and share.  Learn to program by drawing coloured lines on paper.  These cute little robots will follow the lines and respond to colour codes by changing their speed, direction or LED light colour.  Once you learn the basics, you can program these robots through a series of challenges using drag-and-drop coding.  This interactive program is a great introduction to coding, computational thinking and digital exploration for kids in grades 4 – 6.  Presented in partnership with Science World British Columbia.  Registration required online at www.fvrl.ca.

Cubetto Grand Tour

It is never too early to begin learning logic and coding! Cubetto is a friendly wooden robot that teaches children the basics of computer programming through stories and activities. Register online for a chance to interact with our newest robot.  Ages 5 – 10.  Registration is limited - each of the four 1/2 hour time slots is limited to 9 kids.

Teen Advisory Group (TAG)

First Thursday of the month, May 2, July 4, August 1 (except June 6), 6:30 pm - 7:30 pm –

George Mackie Library

TAG is a group of committed teens (ages 13 – 19) who volunteer their time and energy to help staff develop teen-oriented programs and assist at library events; and, act as library representatives in North Delta’s teen community.  Membership is a resume booster and helps earn volunteer hours.  There is time to socialize and plan.  Did we mention that there is free food?  If interested, fill out an application form and drop it off at the library!

Baby Bump Book Club

Did you know that babies begin to recognize voices even before they are born? That means it is never too early to start reading to your baby.  This group is very organic; it can be whatever you need it to be.  If there is anything you would like to talk about or read up on, we can research it in the library.  Join us and make this group your own!  Baby Bump Book Club continues on the last Monday of each month.  Drop ins welcome.

Medicinal Plants:  Best Plants for a Domestic Apothecary Garden

There is big variety of medicinal plants, seeds in nurseries and stores. Anastasiia will talk what to choose to make your perfect Apothecary garden.  Herbal garden is both beautiful and useful, and that is why we will learn which herbs to plant, what parts of medicinal plants to harvest and how use it safely.  Anastasiia Dushyna is a Botanical Pharmacology Specialist with more than 11 years of experience in pharmaceuticals and knowledge of European medicinal plants.
