City of Delta Recognized by NAIOP with Two Awards

Nov 28, 2019

NAIOP, the Commercial Real Estate Development Association has recognized the City of Delta’s fiscal prudence and open for business approach with two awards for municipal excellence. Mayor George V. Harvie accepted the awards at NAIOP’s November breakfast on November 26.

The City of Delta was honoured for “Most Fiscally Responsible” and “Most Improved – Fees”. Delta is no stranger to winning municipal excellence awards from NAIOP having won previously in multiple categories, including three times as “Most Fiscally Responsible”.

“We want to continue to reduce red tape and we currently have an active Task Force and changes are now underway to speed up the development process, reduce costs and wait times, improve communications, and streamline development and approvals. Receiving recognition for our efforts from NAIOP is gratifying and we look forward to implementing further changes to continue creating a great environment for investment.

- Mayor George V. Harvie

Being named “Most Fiscally Responsible” was due to the City of Delta having maintained an annual average inflation rate of -1.6% for development fees since 2001, lowering costs by 1.6% annually for the last 18 years. The City of Delta is one of only three municipalities to have lowered costs over that time period.

Recognition in the “Most Improved – Fees” category was a result of a 25.2% reduction in total fees since 2017. The City’s commitment to reducing fees has significantly reduced costs for commercial real estate developments in Delta.
