City of Delta Announces 2024 Spring Clean-Up Dates

The City of Delta is pleased to announce the return of our popular Spring Clean-Up program, an expanded garbage and scrap metal recycling pick-up service that enables households to put unwanted items at the curb for collection.

This year’s Spring Clean-Up will take place on regular garbage collection days on the following dates:

  • Monday, April 8 – Tsawwassen
  • Tuesday, April 9 – Ladner
  • Wednesday, April 17 & Thursday, April 18 – North Delta

Households that receive weekly garbage collection services from the City are eligible to participate in Spring Clean-Up. The maximum amount of items each household can place at the curb cannot exceed one pickup truck load. The following items are not accepted as part of Spring Clean-Up:

  • Items that cannot be handled by two people.
  • Loose materials.
  • Construction and demolition materials such as wood, cabinets, doors, toilets, or drywall.
  • Electronics, paint, tires, small appliances, and light fixtures (can be returned for free at bottle depots)
  • Any item prohibited or banned from garbage disposal at the Vancouver Landfill.

"We are excited to announce the return of Delta's Spring Clean-Up program, offering residents the opportunity to dispose of unwanted items responsibly while keeping our city clean and beautiful. By participating in Spring Clean-Up, households contribute to our waste reduction goals and promote recycling and re-use within our community. By making sustainable choices, we are not just managing waste; we are shaping a sustainable future for Delta.”
 - Mayor George V. Harvie

To help keep the City’s streetscapes tidy and avoid unsightly items piling up, materials cannot be placed on the curb any sooner than the weekend prior to the scheduled Spring Clean-Up collection day. During Spring Clean-Up, City Bylaw Officers patrol neighbourhoods to help prevent illegal dumping, spread awareness about not placing items at the curb too early, and identify items at the curb that are not accepted as part of Spring Clean-Up.

Recycling is an important part of achieving Delta’s waste reduction goals. Often, items in good condition that are left at the curb are picked up by others for re-use, helping avoid the unnecessary disposal of re-usable items. Another alternative is to consider donating reusable items to local organizations and thrift stores. The list below provides some options for drop-off and pick-up donation services.
