Statement from City of Delta on the Passing of John Horgan

Delta Mayor George V. Harvie released the following statement on the passing of John Horgan:

"On behalf of Delta Council and the City of Delta, I wish to send our sincere condolences and deepest sympathies to the friends and loved ones of former Premier John Horgan on the event of his passing.

John Horgan was the model of a public servant. His fierce loyalty to the people of British Columbia and unwavering commitment to working for the good of our province leaves a legacy that will not soon be forgotten.

A Member of the Legislative Assembly of British Columbia for nearly two decades, John served in many roles, but most notably as Premier of British Columbia from 2017-2022.

During Horgan’s tenure as Premier, BC became the first government in Canada to implement the UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP). His steady leadership guided the province through the challenging and uncertain times of the COVID-19 pandemic and natural disasters like the 2018 wildfire season and the 2021 atmospheric river.

Premier Horgan was known for his love of sports and we were pleased to welcome him to our city in 2019 for the opening of Delta’s first ever cricket pitch, located at Delview Park.

But most of all, we will remember John for his warmth, humour, and passionate devotion to our province.

Our thoughts, and those of all Delta residents, are with his family, friends, and loved ones during this difficult time."
