Is it really garbage?
Before you trash it, search it! It might be a recyclable or compostable item.
Garbage is collected every week. Containers and bags must be at the curb by 7 am on your collection day. To find your collection day, view our 2017 Collection Calendar, or download Delta's MyWaste collection schedule app.
Use standard garbage cans or bags for curbside collection:
- Standard Garbage Can
75cm (30") height, 60cm (24") width
- Standard Garbage Bag
1m (36") height, 60cm (24") width
No ties or bungee cords are permitted on cans.
Two standard garbage cans or bags are accepted for weekly collection. Maximum container/bag weight: 25kg (55lbs).
Garbage in excess of the weekly limit will be collected if each can or bag is accompanied by a garbage sticker. Sheets of six garbage stickers may be purchased for $7.50 from the Delta Municipal Hall or the North and South Delta Recreation Centres.
What Goes in the Garbage?
Not much! Household items that are not recyclable, compostable or reusable can be placed in the garbage. Ensure all accepted garbage material is contained in cans or bags – loose items will not be collected.
Certain materials are banned and prohibited from the garbage in our region because they are either easily recyclable or because they are hazardous to collection workers, the public or the environment. Please visit Metro Vancouver’s website for a complete list of banned and prohibited materials.
Oversized or bulky items can be taken for disposal to the Vancouver Landfill. Visit the Vancouver Landfill website for more information including directions, hours of operation and disposal rates.
Still not sure? Search our recycling directory for recycling and disposal options.
