Construction on the new Winskill Aquatic and Fitness Centre is well underway, with an update presented to Delta Council at the Monday, October 6 Regular Meeting, detailing progress, timelines, and cost estimates for the highly anticipated Winskill Renewal Project.
In July 2025, crews broke ground on the site, beginning work on the new facility and storm drains. Excavation has begun for the new facility, with structural foundation installation set to begin in late fall and continue through winter 2026. During these early stages of construction, staff installed various cameras around the project site to provide enhanced security and give real-time progress updates on construction.
“It’s exciting to see the substantial work that has been accomplished over the course of a few short months,” said Mayor George V. Harvie. “This fantastic community amenity is starting to take shape before our eyes, and I look forward to following its continued progress. With the new baseball fields at Winskill Park ready for use as early as next year, the public will soon be able to enjoy the results of this work first-hand as the Winskill Renewal Project advances.”
The U13 and U15 baseball diamonds are projected for completion in fall 2025 and will be opened for use in spring 2026 once the newly seeded grass has had time to establish. Construction on the diamonds includes new irrigation and drainage systems, backstops, bleachers, lower-level fencing, fully accessible dugouts, and a new batting cage.
As part of the larger work at Winskill Park, storm drainage line replacement is underway, which is projected for completion by late fall 2025. This includes the installation of a 400 m line running west to east along the northern portion of the park which will help to accommodate the growing needs of the community.
The update to Council also included the latest construction schedule, which estimates the project’s completion for late spring 2028 at a budget of $130 million. Staff are working to keep the existing facility open as long as possible during construction to limit disruption of services and programs.
