On October 16, Delta Council and dignitaries from the Province of British Columbia and Delta School District officially opened the new synthetic turf field at Mackie Park.
The grand opening of the new field was celebratory, with music and guest speakers addressing a crowd of students and faculty from Gray Elementary School, alongside representatives from the City, and other local dignitaries. The day's program concluded with students from Gray Elementary playing an inaugural soccer game on the field, formally signaling that it is now open, ready and available for use by both the public and user groups.

As part of the commitment to the 2024-2025 Urban Reforestation Program, this project included the planting of 59 new trees. Preparatory work on the field site began in spring 2024, with construction finishing earlier in fall 2025. The final cost of the field was approximately $4.9 million and was funded through the Province of British Columbia’s Growing Communities Fund.
