At the Monday, October 20, 2025 Regular Meeting, Delta Council approved the proposed design for the new Ladner Bike Park to be built at Kensington Park North.
The endorsed plan includes a new bike park designed for both advanced and novice riders. Situated in the northeast corner of Kensington Park North, the park will feature an asphalt pump track and a dirt jump trail built with materials from the existing bike park. The concept, developed with Velosolutions, also features other amenity improvements like landscaping, access paths, signage, and seating areas. Additional upgrades to Kensington Park North will further enhance recreational opportunities in the neighbourhood.
“The relocation of the bike park and the subsequent upgrades to Kensington Park North will create a new high-quality space for recreation in East Ladner, benefiting riders and non-riders alike,” said Mayor George V. Harvie. “Kensington Park North provides us the opportunity to build a home for seasoned riders and those looking to approach pump tracks and trails for the first time, fostering a space for community members to pursue their hobbies and make meaningful new connections.”
In July and August 2025, Delta staff led an engagement program inviting current Holly Park Pump Track users and nearby residents to provide feedback on two different proposed bike park designs. This process included pop-up events, online feedback forms, public signage, email outreach, letters, and social media. Participants favoured a track that accommodates riders of all skill levels and expressed a preference for the design option that featured a combination of both asphalt and dirt elements.
While work begins on the new bike park, improvements are also planned for the tennis courts at Kensington Park North. Council approved plans for renewing one of the existing tennis courts and converting the second into a multi-sport court that could support basketball and ball hockey.
Staff will submit concept plans for the bike park and broader upgrades to Kensington Park North to BC Hydro for final approval in accordance with the statutory right-of-way requirements. Construction on the renewed tennis court and multi-sport court at Kensington Park North are expected to begin in late 2026. Detailed construction timelines for the site are being developed and will be communicated to the surrounding community as they become available.
Potential uses for the current bike park site at Holly Park will be considered as part of the Parks, Recreation and Culture Master Plan process.
