The City of Delta has announced plans for the Pop-Up Park program in 2026. This year‘s installations will be featured in business districts, recreation centres, and libraries, allowing residents an opportunity to relax and connect with other community members through play and rest. Some upcoming highlights for this year’s parks include the relocation of Bridge Street Park from past years to the corner of Chisholm Street and Delta Street, providing new opportunities for outdoor recreation in Ladner Village, a vibrant mural installation at Sungod Recreation Centre, and a new location at North Delta Recreation Centre.
“The Pop-Up Park Program has become a vibrant annual tradition in our community,” said Mayor George V. Harvie. “These spaces have become wonderful spots for everyone in Delta to participate in engaging activities and competition, or to socialize and bond with our neighbours. We look forward to seeing this program return for another summer, with new experiences to enhance our shared spaces.”
Informed by community engagement gathered at the end of the 2025 season, the program extends beyond just games and murals placed in traditional business areas—outdoor reading rooms, arts spaces, and a community piano round out the activations for the coming season. The locations for 2026 Pop-Up Programing include:
- South Delta Art Gallery Pop-Up Park
- Ladner Village Pop-Up Park
- Pop-Up Programming at Elliott Street Wharf
- Sungod Recreation Centre Pop-Up Park
- Diefenbaker Park Pop-Up Piano
- North Delta Recreation Centre Pop-Up Park and Programming
- Outdoor Reading Rooms at Tsawwassen and George Mackie Libraries
Users of the parks indicated that while overall satisfaction was high, there is room for growth and improvement. Recommendations included more seating and shade, a wider range of games, more art-focused programing, and additional opportunities for food vendors. This feedback helped guide the direction of this year’s programming. Installation will begin in late spring, remaining open throughout the summer through late-September. The full scope of activities and amenities at each location will be available at letstalk.delta.ca/PopUpParks.
The Pop-Up Park Program was launched in 2021 with the goal of providing additional recreation programming throughout Delta. City staff replenish game inventory as needed, with Bylaws Parks Patrol providing after-hours coverage in locations in similar locations.
