Council is particularly encouraged by the federal commitment of up to $3 billion toward the George Massey Tunnel Replacement Project. This significant investment will improve mobility for residents, strengthen a vital trade corridor, and address a longstanding transportation bottleneck that impacts the movement of people and goods throughout the Lower Mainland.
As one of Canada's most important trade gateways to some of the fastest growing markets, Delta welcomes the investment to improve infrastructure at Roberts Bank Terminal. These investments will enhance the movement of goods through Delta's trade gateways, expand export capacity, and support thousands of jobs both locally and across the region.
The City also welcomes commitments to flood mitigation and coastal protection. These investments recognize the importance of safeguarding Delta's agricultural lands, critical infrastructure, and natural environment while building resilience to the growing impacts of climate change. Protecting these assets is essential to supporting our local economy and Canada's food security.
With these commitments to major infrastructure improvements, investments in skilled trades training will help create stable, well-paying jobs for the region. The expansion of skilled trades training and workforce development will create lasting economic opportunities for current and future generations.
