September 30 marks the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. This is a day to reflect on the harmful legacy of the Residential School system, mourn the Indigenous children who never returned home, honour survivors and their communities, and reaffirm our ongoing commitment to acknowledging the truth and advance reconciliation.
In remembrance of this important day, we invite the public to attend our annual Every Child Matters Flag Raising Ceremony at the Delta City Hall commemorative flagpole on Tuesday, September 29. Delta Council, representatives from Host Nations, and members of the community will also be attending the ceremony.

How You Can Show Support
- Wear Orange: You are encouraged to wear orange shirts in solidarity with Survivors, as a tribute to children who never returned home, and to acknowledge the enduring impacts of Residential Schools. Visit the Orange Shirt Society to discover the history behind Orange Shirt Day and where this symbol originated.
- Reflect and Act: Staff are also encouraged to reflect and consider actionable steps toward reconciliation, such as learning more about Indigenous history at this free talk on October 1—Storying Water, Shaping Nationhood - How Intergenerational Tsawwassen Knowledge Shapes Tsawwassen Governance. You can also participate in local events, or foster meaningful conversations with colleagues, friends, and family.

In recognition of this meaningful day, Delta City Hall and the North Delta Centre for the Arts will be illuminated in orange on September 30. There will be commemorative messages across our social media channels and local newspapers.
