The City of Delta is pleased to host the official launch event for BC Culture Days, taking place this September.

The kick-off event for this annual provincewide celebration will be held at Hawthorne Grove Park on Sunday, September 20 from 10 am – 2 pm, in partnership with BC Culture Days. Members of the public are invited to attend the free event, which will feature a variety of music, art, and cultural performances, while also giving attendees the opportunity to explore the historic Kirkland House and learn about important heritage groups in the community.

"We are honoured that Culture Days is launching this year’s celebration in our community, giving us an exciting opportunity to share Delta’s rich culture and heritage with a wider audience,” said Mayor George V. Harvie. “Through the launch event and the City’s programming that follows, we look forward to bringing Delta’s diverse stories to life through art, education, and more.

Every year, Culture Days celebrates culture and heritage as Canada’s largest public participation campaign for the arts. Running from September 18 through October 4, 2026, attendees will find free, interactive events, programs, and activities at arts and cultural centres throughout Delta. This year’s events include:

Words on Fire

Painting Mixed Media

Community & Crops

The Red Barn

Roots & Shoots

Open Stage

Culture Days with the Delta Literary Arts Society

Returning in 2026 is the Delta Community Art Contest, operating alongside Delta’s Culture Days events. Artists from across Delta, from budding to professional, are invited to showcase their passion for their community through art. This year, participants are invited to interpret Delta’s natural and cultivated environments using the theme of “Exploring Life in a Rural Setting” as inspiration.

Submissions for the art contest will remain open through September 4. The top ten submissions will be posted at Harris Barn on September 20 at the Culture Days launch event, where the public will be invited to select their favourite piece. Voting will be open until October 23 at the Douglas J. Husband Discovery Centre, Tsawwassen Arts Centre, and North Delta Centre for the Arts.
