Civic and Sport Recognition Awards

The Civic and Sport Recognition Policy is designed to provide opportunities for Mayor and Council to recognize service and achievements of Delta residents, groups, and businesses. Delta Council may bestow a Civic or Sport Recognition award, when deemed appropriate, for the formal recognition of outstanding achievements. The Office of the City Clerk shall receive, coordinate, and manage all duties related to the nomination and presentation of Civic and Sport Recognition Awards.

Council endorsed the Civic and Sport Recognition Policy, which provides for the granting of three broad levels of Civic Recognition:

  • Major Awards (Freedom of the Municipality and Long-term Contribution)
  • Special Honours (Achievement Award, Certificates, and Sport Recognition)
  • Annual Awards (Best in Business, Difference Maker, Environmental Leadership, Accessible Business, Volunteer, Arts and Culture, and Trades & Technical Career Scholarship)

For a description of each award, please view the Civic and Sport Recognition Policy.

Nominations for annual awards will be sought in January each year with recipients determined by a Recognition Review Committee. All recipients of annual awards, with the exception of the Trades and Technical Career Scholarship, will receive a Tree for Change and a certificate from the Mayor noting their achievement.

To submit a nomination, please complete the Civic and Sport Recognition Nomination Form and submit it to the Office of the City Clerk at the City of Delta, 4500 Clarence Taylor Crescent, Delta, BC V4K 3E2, by fax at 604-946-3390, or by email at clerks@delta.ca.
