Time to Jump In! Community Invited to Get Involved in Design of Winskill

The City of Delta is launching the first phase of engagement with the community on the design of the new aquatic and recreation facility at Winskill Park. Delta Council received an update on the project at their Regular Meeting on May 6 including the selection of Unitech as the construction management firm and Dialog/Carscadden as the project architect.

Delta residents are now invited to jump in and provide input into the design of the new facility at Winskill by participating through Let’s Talk Delta and in-person opportunities. The first phase of the engagement program gets underway this week and runs through to June 16, 2024.

“It is a rare opportunity to build a new facility from the ground up and we encourage the community to get involved and help shape this newest amenity,” said Mayor George V. Harvie. “I’m thrilled by the enthusiasm of many Tsawwassen and surrounding area residents who have been long-time patrons of the existing Winskill Aquatic and Fitness Centre. Our goal is to ensure that this new facility meets the needs of our community today and for decades to come.”

Residents are invited to share their ideas on a range of topics including the number of lanes, the features and attractions included in the leisure pool, accessibility and sustainability considerations, and many others. One of the most significant questions to be explored through this phase of engagement is the location of the new building on the Winskill Park site.

“The City is exploring a different location for the building at Winskill Park so the current facility can remain open to patrons during construction,” said Jim Bauer, the City’s Director of Major Capital Projects. “There are three options being considered and each has different impacts to user groups, parking, and more. Residents who may not use the indoor facility may have an interest in its location and we encourage everyone to share their feedback.”

Diagrams of the three options along with other project information and a feedback form are now available at letstalk.delta.ca/Winskill. Interested residents will also find a list of all of the opportunities to get involved. There are several sessions planned for residents in the area, aquatic user groups, field user groups, underrepresented groups, as well as the community-at-large.
