Frequently Asked Questions

• I missed the deadline to apply online for a vote by mail package. Can I still vote by mail?

  If you missed the vote by mail application deadline and are unable to vote in person, please contact the Delta Elections Office as soon as possible to discuss your voting options.

  In certain circumstances, a vote by mail package may still be issued after the deadline. To help ensure your ballot is received before the close of voting on General Voting Day, you must be prepared to pick up the ballot package and return your complete ballot directly to the Elections Office. This helps ensure ballots are received by the required deadline and can be counted.

• Who can apply for a mail ballot?

  All eligible voters may apply for a mail ballot package. The mail ballot package will include instructions on how to complete and return the ballot.

  To be eligible to vote as a resident elector or non-resident property elector in the City of Delta, you must meet the eligibility requirements.

• What is in the mail ballot package?

  The mail ballot package includes the following:

  • Instructions on how to complete the mail ballot application
  • A mail ballot application form
  • A 200M form to register as an elector, if required*
  • A list of acceptable identification to register as an elector
  • A form to register as a non-resident property elector
  • A non-resident property elector consent form
  • An envelope to return the completed documents

  *If you are not on the Delta Voters List, you must complete an Application for Registration as a Local Government Resident Elector (200M form). Submit the completed form and a copy of two pieces of acceptable identification.

• How do I receive a mail ballot?

  Once a complete mail ballot application has been received and approved, a mail ballot package may be obtained by mail or in person at Delta City Hall. Mail ballot packages will be mailed beginning September 28, 2026. 

• What is the deadline for a mail ballot to be received by the Chief Election Officer?

  Deadline for mail ballots to be received by the Chief Election Officer is before 8:00 pm on October 17, 2026 – General Voting Day.

  It is the responsibility of the voter to ensure the completed mail ballot is received before 8:00 pm on October 17, 2026. If you are returning your mail ballot by post, ensure you allow enough time for Canada Post to deliver it before 8:00 pm on October 17, 2026.

  Mail ballot packages received after 8:00 pm on October 17, 2026 will not be counted. Postmarks will not be considered valid for the return of completed ballots.

• What if I make a mistake or change my mind?

  If you make a mistake on your mail ballot or decide to vote in person instead, return your entire mail ballot package to the Presiding Election Official at a voting place. A new ballot will be issued to you. Voters can also contact the Elections Office prior to voting opportunities to surrender their ballot or request a replacement mail ballot package.
