Welcome to Delta!

Delta is a culturally diverse and growing city located in the Metro Vancouver area. Home to over 108,000 residents, Delta offers a unique landscape that blends urban and rural.

Over one third of Delta’s residents are immigrants, 45% of our population identify as racialized residents and close to 900 newcomers arrive every year. The City’s social fabric continues to evolve with its newcomer communities being an integral part of its culture, and helping to shape the future of Delta. Delta’s residents make it a great place to play, learn, live, and work!

We understand that moving to a new country or city is exciting, but it can also be overwhelming and full of challenges. The City of Delta offers many services to its residents and continues to partner with community organizations to ensure that the needs of our newcomer residents are being met. The resources below have been developed to help make the transition to a new home city as smooth as possible.

- Delta’s Diversity, Inclusion, and Anti-Racism Committee was formed in 2023 to advise Council on issues pertaining diversity and inclusion. Learn more.
- Delta’s Immigrant Needs Report: In 2023, the City of Delta conducted a survey with residents to better understand newcomer and racialized residents’ needs. A summary of findings provides an overview of who participated in the survey and sheds light on how immigrant/racialized residents can be better supported by the City and community partners. - Volunteering with the City: Looking for ways to get involved in your community? The City of Delta has multiple volunteer programs that residents can be a part of. Help with special events, join volunteers at the Delta Museum, assist with swimming lessons, and more. Learn more.
- Delta Community Voices Table was formed in 2023, as a part of a UBCM-funded project to reduce poverty in Delta. Comprised of residents with lived and living experiences of poverty, its eight members have diverse experiences navigating life in Delta on limited incomes and met to discuss issues they were passionate about. Learn more about the community initiative that the group worked on together in 2023 and what they are up to now.
- Newcomer Community Forum: In collaboration with community partners, Delta hosted a Newcomer Community Forum to share the survey results that shed light on local immigrant needs and celebrate community collaborative work to support immigrant and racialized residents. The forum took place on March 13, 2024.
- MentorConnect is a new pilot project being initiated in partnership with Immigrant Employment Council of BC (IEC-BC) to bridge the gap between immigrant and local professionals by facilitating professional mentorship opportunities. Learn more about the MentorConnect program.
- Applying for jobs with the City: In partnership with MOSAIC, the operator of Delta's WorkBC centers, information sessions are being developed to equip local job seekers with the knowledge and skills they need to pursue job opportunities within the City of Delta. These sessions will run in the spring of 2024.
- Delta Civic Engagement Bootcamp: In collaboration with local community partners, Delta is piloting a Civic Engagement Bootcamp for diverse residents with the goal to help them find their voice and participate in decisions that affect their lives. The project will run for 6 weeks starting in late spring of 2024.
