Extreme Weather Response Shelter in Delta
The Extreme Weather Response Program is funded by BC Housing and operates between October 15 and April 15 each year. There are three Extreme Weather Shelters located in Delta - one in Ladner and two in North Delta. The City of Delta supports this program and participates in the local Extreme Weather Response Working Group.
The following sites may open in Delta only when an Extreme Weather Alert has been issued:
Women-Only Extreme Weather Shelter
When is it available: Overnight operations, 9:00 pm to 6:30 am
Where is it: 7655 120 Street, Delta, BC (Crossroads United Church)

How many beds are available: Ten (10) inclusive spaces for self-identified women only.
Ladner Extreme Weather Shelter
When is it available: Overnight operations, 9:00 pm to 7:00 am
Where is it: 4960 48 Ave, Delta, BC (Ladner United Church)
Who to call, if needed: 604-599-8900 (OPTIONS Hyland House EWR Coordination)
How many beds are available: Nine (9) spaces are available.
North Delta Extreme Weather Shelter
When is it available: Overnight operations, 9:00 pm to 6:30 am
Where is it: 11838 88 Avenue, North Delta, BC (New Hope Church)
Who to call, if needed: 778-293-0889 ext. 101 (Guilford Shelter)
How many beds are available: Fifteen (15) spaces are available.
Extreme weather is defined as conditions deemed severe enough to present a substantial threat to the life and/or health of individuals experiencing homelessness. In the municipality of Delta, Extreme Weather Alerts are issued by the Homelessness Services Association of BC when the following criteria are met:
- Rainfall that makes it difficult or impossible for those experiencing homelessness to remain dry; and/or
- Sleet/freezing rain; and/or
- Snow accumulation; and/or
- Sustained high winds; and/or
- Temperatures at, or feeling like 0 C. or below; and/or
- Rainfall of at least 50mm in a 24-hour period; and/or
- Alerts, Warnings, Storm Watches issued by Environment Canada
When an EWR alert is issued, City staff notifies various community and business partners who can share this information with people who are experiencing homelessness in Delta. The City also issues alerts on its social media. To get extreme weather updates: follow us on Twitter and/or Facebook.

Civic facilities open for warming
In addition to the extreme weather response program, Delta's public facilities, including recreation centres and libraries, are open during regular business hours for anyone seeking relief from the cold. Azure Place - Delta Transition House
The Delta transition house for women and children fleeing violence opened on August 28, 2017. Azure Place is located in Delta in an unidentified location and provides a safe home environment for women and their families who need a short-term place to stay during a time of crisis in their life. It is funded by BC Housing and operated by W.I.N.G.S. (Women in Need Gaining Strength), a non-profit organization serving women throughout Metro Vancouver.
