Winter Safety Information for Delta Residents

As temperatures drop, it's crucial to prioritize safety during winter weather. Delta provides three Extreme Weather Shelters - one in Ladner and two in North Delta - open during winter and extreme weather events in the evenings and overnight:

Women-Only Extreme Weather Shelter

When is it available: Overnight operations, 9:00 pm to 6:30 am
Where is it: 7655 120 Street, Delta, BC (Crossroads United Church)
Who to call, if needed: 604-957-1556 (Azure Place)
How many beds are available: Ten (10) inclusive spaces for self-identified women only.

Ladner Extreme Weather Shelter

When is it available: Overnight operations, 9:00 pm to 7:00 am
Where is it: 4960 48 Ave, Delta, BC (Ladner United Church)
Who to call, if needed: 604-599-8900 (OPTIONS Hyland House EWR Coordination)
How many beds are available: Nine (9) spaces are available.

North Delta Extreme Weather Shelter

When is it available: Overnight operations, 9:00 pm to 6:30 am
Where is it: 11838 88 Avenue, North Delta, BC (New Hope Church)
Who to call, if needed: 78-293-0889 ext 101 (Guilford Shelter)
How many beds are available: Fifteen (15) spaces are available.

For those sleeping outside, we encourage you to seek the safety of the shelters.

Civic facilities open for warming

In addition to the extreme weather response program, Delta's public facilities, including recreation centres and libraries, are open during regular business hours for anyone seeking relief from the cold. How winter weather affects your health

Winter conditions pose health risks, including hypothermia and frostbite, as well as injuries due to slipping or falling. Individuals at higher risk include older adults, children under one year old, people with disabilities, those with pre-existing illnesses or on certain medications, people experiencing homelessness, outdoor workers, and those living in housing without heat or power.
