The City of Delta is pleased to announce the start of Phase 2 of the 72 Avenue Roadway Improvements Project, scheduled to begin on October 21, 2024. The purpose of this project is to improve safety, traffic flow, and overall infrastructure along the 72 Avenue corridor between 115 Street and 120 Street.
“This project is a necessary investment for Delta, representing years of planning and a commitment to improving our community’s infrastructure,” said Mayor George V. Harvie. “It will address long-standing traffic challenges and create a safer, more efficient route for everyone. We look forward to seeing the positive impact this will have on our residents and commuters.”
The 72 Avenue Roadway Improvements Project is part of the City’s long-term plan to improve transportation infrastructure for Delta’s growing population. Phase 2 will introduce upgrades to improve safety, accessibility, and traffic efficiency along the 72 Avenue corridor. Planned improvements include:
- Road widening to four lanes with a centre median island from 115 Street to 120 Street.
- New LED Street lighting along the corridor.
- Installation of a new traffic signal at 118 Street and 72 Avenue.
- Upgraded bus stops and sidewalk improvements.
- Relocation of hydro and telecommunication poles.
- New signal equipment to support U-turns at 116 Street and Nicholson Road.
Construction is anticipated to be completed by fall 2025. Residents and commuters should expect some traffic disruptions during Phase 2 construction, with efforts made to minimize inconvenience. Major activities like asphalt paving will be scheduled at night, when possible, to reduce daytime impacts, and residents will be notified in advance.
