Is this your first time at skating lesson?

Read about what you can expect when stepping onto the ice for the very first time.

What’s Happening

I am going to skating lessons at the arena. 

I will learn to skate and have fun on the ice.

Where

Skating lessons happen in the arena. 

I will go inside, change into my skates, and wait by my instructor’s sign in the lobby.

Who

My instructor will be there to help me. Other children will also be learning to skate.

The instructor helps a new skater with some basics.

Steps

  1. I will go to the skate shop to get my helmet and skates/I will bring my skates and helmet
  2. I will put on my helmet, skates and gloves.
  3. I will wait for my instructor at their sign
  4. I will walk carefully to the ice.
  5. I will listen to my instructor.
  6. I will try my best and practice new skills.

Sensory Expectations

It will feel cold in the rink. 

The ice is very slippery, and I might hear loud noises or music. 

The lights can be bright. 

The arena at North Delta Recreation Centre has been established for lessons.

Safety Rules

  • Always wear a helmet and gloves.
  • Stay in your own personal bubble on the ice.
  • Stay with your instructor during your lesson.

It’s okay to feel nervous. 

I can take deep breaths or ask for help.
