Delta Council gave first and second readings to the new OCP Bylaw at their Regular Meeting on April 8, initiating a Public Hearing for the proposed plan that will guide decisions on development in the City of Delta for the next 20 years.
“Council is very grateful for the significant effort by staff and the extraordinary participation by the community that made it possible to deliver the proposed OCP for formal consideration,” said Mayor George V. Harvie. “We’re looking forward to the Public Hearing process to understand if the resulting recommendations for managing growth address the concerns of the community and balance the need to add housing with our shared interest in responsible development.”
The City will now hold a Public Hearing to allow the community a formal opportunity to address Council directly about the proposed Delta Official Community Plan Bylaw No. 8400, 2024. Property owners and occupants across Delta will receive a Notice of Public Hearing in the mail this week with information on how to participate in the hearing. The hearing is scheduled for Monday, April 22, 2024 in the Council Chamber at Delta City Hall beginning at 3:00 pm. The notice can also be found on the City’s website at delta.ca/PublicHearing.
The engagement process provided important in-person and online opportunities for residents to contribute to the direction of the plan. With the new OCP Bylaw before Council, residents are now invited to share their feedback on the proposed OCP with Council as part of the Public Hearing process. You can submit written correspondence to mayor-council@delta.ca or attend the scheduled Public Hearing in-person or virtually.
The City is also providing further opportunities for community members to ask staff questions about what is proposed in advance of the Public Hearing. Two in-person Question & Answer sessions are planned for community members to drop in and speak with staff. The sessions are scheduled as follows:
- April 17 Q&A Drop-in Session – 6 pm to 8 pm at Ladner Community Centre, 4734 51 Street
- April 18 Q&A Drop-in Session – 6 pm to 8 pm at North Delta Recreation Centre, 11415 84 Avenue
Residents can also send their questions to the project email DeltaOCPUpdate@delta.ca. Please note that emails sent to this address are for questions and will not form part of the public hearing record. Formal feedback should be sent to mayor-council@delta.ca in accordance with the Notice of Pubic Hearing.
