City of Delta Launches Period Promise Campaign

The City of Delta, in collaboration with United Way, recently launched the Period Promise campaign. This pilot project provides free menstrual supplies in washrooms in 15 facilities across Delta.

Endorsed by the Diversity, Inclusion and Anti-Racism Committee and adopted by Mayor George V. Harvie and Delta Council, the Period Promise campaign intends to provide free access to menstrual supplies for anyone who needs it and to reduce the stigma around period poverty. The campaign has been effective in other communities across Metro Vancouver and has made a positive impact on those needing access to these products. Pads and tampons are available at 15 of Delta’s public facilities and will be replenished in the same way toilet paper and paper towels are in washrooms.

“For far too long, the stigma surrounding menstrual products has created barriers for people to access and use these essential items. I’m proud of the work that the Diversity, Inclusion and Anti-Racism Committee and Delta Council have done to support this campaign from United Way. By making these resources available through the Period Promise Campaign, we can help preserve the dignity of those in need while reducing stigma and having an important conversation in our community.”

Councillor Jennifer Johal, Vice-Chair of the Diversity, Inclusion and Anti-Racism Committee

The Period Promise Campaign was introduced to the Diversity, Inclusion and Anti-Racism Committee via a United Way presentation on September 7, 2023, which was followed by a report to Delta Council that was approved on October 6, 2023.
