The City of Delta is seeking feedback on the future of cemetery services in Delta and on the proposed plans for the Boundary Bay and North Delta cemeteries. The Cemetery Master Plan will guide investments in interment and memorial services for the next 25 years and ensure residents continue to have meaningful choices for honouring loved ones. Residents are encouraged to provide their feedback by Sunday, November 30, 2025.
What's Being Proposed
Boundary Bay Cemetery is nearing capacity. The plan proposes phased improvements focused on cremation and memorial options, including a cremation garden, small columbaria, woodland scattering garden, memorial wall, seating and gathering areas, and pathway adjustments to increase space. Limited additional burial capacity may be created as land and space allow.
North Delta Cemetery has room to expand and would see new traditional burial plots, in-ground cremation spaces, and columbaria, along with the introduction of green burial. As demand at Boundary Bay grows, expanding options at North Delta will help meet future needs while supporting a range of interment preferences.
Exploring New Memorial Opportunities
Delta has established a reflective lookout near the shoreline area of Tilbury Island, known as Duck Island for ash scattering. The City is exploring an overlook pier to provide families with a meaningful space along the Fraser River to honour and remember their loved ones.
As part of the Cemetery Master Plan, green burial is proposed as a new interment service for Delta, offering environmentally conscious options such as biodegradable caskets or shrouds and no embalming chemicals.
