Delta Council Approves Agreements for Construction of New Indoor Baseball Training Facility at Cromie Park

Delta Council has given its approval to a construction and lease agreement, as well as a contribution agreement, between the City and Ladner Minor Baseball Association (LMBA), marking a significant milestone in the development of Ladner’s Cromie Park.

The agreements pave the way for LMBA to construct and operate an Indoor Baseball Training Facility at Cromie Park. The new facility will span 14,300 square feet and includes four exterior access public washrooms, meeting space, concession facilities, and storage space. Additionally, the City’s Parks, Recreation & Culture department will be able to use the facility to host public programs, enhancing opportunities for community learning and engagement.

The initiative, spearheaded by LMBA in collaboration with the City of Delta, has been in development for several years under the Cromie Park Master Plan. Following a comprehensive public consultation in 2021, the City has been working closely with LMBA to refine and finalize plans aimed at maximizing funding and construction efficiencies.

"This project represents a collaborative effort between the City of Delta and Ladner Minor Baseball Association to establish a facility that addresses the evolving needs of Delta’s sports associations. An investment into sports and recreation infrastructure is an investment in our youth, which contributes to a healthy, active, and thriving community. I am proud of the impact that this facility will have as a hub for sports activity and training ground for the development of our local athletes.”
- Mayor George V. Harvie

“The approval of agreements between the City of Delta and Ladner Minor Baseball Association signifies a monumental step forward in our vision to create a cutting-edge Indoor Baseball Training Facility at Cromie Park. This facility is an investment in kids and their future and will elevate our community's sports infrastructure for decades to come.”
- Todd Allan, LMBA President

Under the contribution agreement, the City will contribute a maximum of $2.5 million towards the estimated $3.7 million project cost. Any additional costs will be the responsibility of LMBA. The construction and lease agreement includes an initial ten-year term, with an option to renew for another ten years, totaling 20 years. LMBA will oversee the design and construction of the facility, after which the City will assume ownership.

The proposed facility marks a significant enhancement to Cromie Park's Master Plan, with the final phase set to include the addition of a third baseball diamond upon completion of the Indoor Baseball Training Facility.
