On behalf of Delta Council and in support of Delta’s first responders, Mayor George V. Harvie sent a letter to the Honourable Adrian Dix, Minister of Health, requesting priority vaccinations for the City’s first responders.
Other jurisdictions, including Surrey, White Rock, and the Vancouver Coastal Health Authority have been approved to begin receiving vaccines. Given the essential and life-saving work done by first responders in all jurisdictions, it is imperative that the sector be treated consistently throughout the region with an equitable approach to priority vaccine access. Like first responders in other jurisdictions, City of Delta first responders frequently provide assistance to other municipalities. Protecting the entire sector is vital to continuing their life-saving work in all communities.
“With the rapid rise in new cases, I am increasingly concerned for the health and safety of our first responders and their ability to continue to effectively provide vital emergency services. We are all pleased with the announcement that first responders in other jurisdictions are now being prioritized for vaccinations, but given our proximity and frequency of cross border services, it is imperative that Delta’s first responders also receive priority vaccinations.”
