The City of Delta is proud to celebrate progress on significant City goals in 2025, with a clear plan to build on this momentum in 2026, ensuring the continued delivery of high-quality services for Delta residents.
In a report presented to Delta Council at the February 9 Regular Meeting, City staff highlighted key achievements and progress on City initiatives in 2025. These milestones include everything from capital projects, like breaking ground on the new Winskill Aquatic and Fitness Centre, to hosting dynamic new community events, introducing the free Youth and Kids (YAK) recreation pass, and surpassing the Year 2 provincial housing target order.
Looking ahead to 2026, the City is focused on continued investment in critical infrastructure, completing the overall Parks, Recreation & Culture Master Plan, and developing a new City and Community Events Strategy, among other key initiatives.
“Each year, we take an opportunity as a City to look back at what we have accomplished and where we are headed,” said Mayor George V. Harvie. “Council is proud of what the City has achieved in 2025, making progress in key areas, like recreation services, housing, community engagement, and more. I look forward to the year ahead, as we continue to build a more vibrant community for all who call Delta home.”
Achievements highlighted in the report include:
- Hosting two new successful City events: Ladders, Lights & Loaders and DIYAfest, the latter being the largest South Asian cultural event ever hosted by the City.
- Being the first and only City in BC to provide free recreation centre drop-in admissions to residents 0-18 years of age through the YAK Pass. Delta issued 14,990 YAK passes in 2025 and welcomed nearly a million visits to recreational facilities.
- Completing the City-wide Community Satisfaction Survey, receiving responses from 2,082 residents, the results of which were used to inform the 2026 Budget and guide City priorities moving forward.
- Maintaining one of the lowest Crime Severity Index scores at 55.3, well below provincial (93) and national (77.9) averages.
Identified goals for 2026 include:
- Strengthening relations with Tsawwassen First Nation and Musqueam Indian Band through relationship building initiatives including the Welcome Pole project and increased project engagement.
- Advancing Winskill Aquatic Centre construction, keeping on target and budget for a Spring 2028 opening.
- Commencing construction on several key infrastructure projects including upgrades to watermains at 82A Street and 53A Street, sewer upgrades at 84 Avenue and 53 Street, and road rehabilitation at 88 Street and 72 Street.
- Hosting two soccer fan zones to watch the FIFA World Cup 2026™.
- Conducting the 2026 local government elections and creating transparent, accessible, and effective communications to support the elections and encourage participation.
