The City of Delta is proposing to relocate the Ladner Bike Park to Kensington Park North, a move that would replicate the Bike Park’s current footprint and provide for potential future expansion. A report outlining the proposed relocation, design process, and public engagement plan will be presented at the Regular Council Meeting on March 3, 2025.
“After reviewing different locations, Kensington Park North proved to be the best option,” said Josh Turner, General Manager of Parks, Recreation & Culture. “If Council wishes to proceed with the Kensington Park North location, it will keep the Ladner Bike Park within the same neighbourhood it is currently in. Staff are looking forward to consulting with park users and neighbouring residents about the proposed relocation and design of the new park to ensure it meets the needs of the community.”
In July 2024, a portion of the facility was closed following approval of a residential development on 60B Street, which included a land exchange and re-alignment of the boundary of Holly Park. The new park boundary created a sufficient footprint to allow for the future development of an additional field in Holly Park. Kensington Park North has been identified as a potential new location for the bike park, offering a space that can meet or exceed the size and quality of the existing track. Located half a kilometre from Holly Park, it includes an existing parking lot and is set back from nearby homes—minimizing the impacts for neighbours. Before any planning for relocation could proceed, the City sought endorsement from BC Hydro, as the site falls within their statutory right-of-way. This endorsement was received earlier this month although BC Hydro must still approval the final design.
If Council approves the recommendations, the City would engage a qualified bike park consultant to develop preliminary design options, followed by public engagement in summer 2025 to gather feedback from users and area residents on whether they would like to see the bike park relocated to Kensington Park North. The existing bike park would remain open until a new park is built, allowing the community to continue using the facility without interruption.
The proposal includes a budget of $500,000 in the City’s 2025 Financial Plan for design and construction. To get involved in future engagement opportunities, visit letstalk.delta.ca for updates this spring.
