2022 Heritage Awards Winners Announced

Office of the Mayor
Mayor George V. Harvie of Delta

Each year the Delta Heritage Advisory Commission selects the recipients of the Heritage Award of Merit and the Friends of Heritage Award. These awards provide an opportunity for Delta to recognize heritage preservation contributions to the community.

The Delta Heritage Advisory Commission is pleased to announce the following recipients of the 2022 Heritage Awards:

The Heritage Award of Merit is conferred to projects, individuals or groups for their contribution in conserving a valuable part of Delta's history. The Delta Optimist has been selected as the recipient of the 2022 Heritage Award of Merit on the occasion of the newspaper’s 100th anniversary and longstanding service to the community.

The Friends of Heritage Award is conferred to individuals for their commitment and contribution to Delta’s heritage. Jim Dwight and Gary Cullen have been selected as the recipients of the 2022 Friends of Heritage Award for co-authoring the book “Lord Don’t Want Me, Devil Won’t Take Me” about the life of Tsawwassen pioneer Pansy May Stuttard.

“On behalf of Council I wish to congratulate the 2022 recipients of the Delta Heritage Award of Merit and the Friends of Heritage Award. The recipients have contributed to bringing stories of Delta’s past into the present. Through the sharing of their talents and passions, the recipients weave the threads that connect and enrich our community. It takes a tremendous amount of work and commitment to share these stories with the community, and I applaud all the work of the Delta Optimist as well as Jim Dwight and Gary Cullen.”
