The City of Delta is launching a comprehensive transportation study of North Delta, designed to identify current and future transportation needs and accommodate the community’s continued growth.
The study will include developing a 10-year road network and identifying opportunities to expand transportation infrastructure—particularly in areas zoned for increased density in Delta’s Official Community Plan. North Delta residents are invited to get involved in this process, helping the City identify areas where improvements are most needed.
“As Delta continues to experience growth, it’s vital that our transportation networks keep pace, meeting the needs of residents and maintaining the connectivity of our community,” said Mayor George V. Harvie. “This study will help us identify key areas for improvement—whether it’s reducing congestion, improving bus shelters or making it easier for people to walk, bike, and take transit. We want to hear directly from North Delta residents about where they see opportunities for improvement, and make the investments needed to ensure our community’s future success.”
The scope of the transportation study includes identifying opportunities to improve existing intersections and roadways to relieve traffic congestion, recommending best practices regarding on-street parking, and exploring where new transit routes and bus stops will be needed to service population growth. The study will also look at ways to build new road connections that both expand vehicle capacity and promote active transportation.
Starting today, residents have the opportunity to let the City know where transportation improvements are needed in North Delta. Using the interactive map at letstalk.delta.ca/NorthDeltaTransportation, residents can pinpoint exact locations for improvements such as missing sidewalks, heavy congestion, a need for cycling infrastructure, or other transportation challenges. Input will be collected through to February 28, 2025. Residents wanting to speak to Council or staff about the transportation needs in North Delta are invited to drop by the Council Open House on Mar. 3 in the gymnasium at the North Delta Recreation Centre between 4:30 pm and 6 pm.
Upon completion of the study, the data gathered will inform the development of Neighbourhood Servicing Plans—long-term plans for infrastructure, including water, sewer, and stormwater, for key growth areas across the City.
