The City of Delta is advising residents of upcoming construction to install a new underground fibre-optic cable along 56 Street and 12 Avenue in Tsawwassen.
Work is scheduled to begin the week of February 16, 2026, and is expected to be completed by early April 2026, weather permitting.
Location and Construction Hours
The cable will be installed beneath 56 Street from the South Delta Recreation Centre to Winskill Recreation Centre, and beneath 12 Avenue from 56 Street to the Delta Firehall along 12 Avenue.
Construction will take place overnight between 8:00 pm and 5:00 am using horizontal directional drilling, a minimally invasive method that avoids open-cut trenching. This approach helps reduce surface disruption, however, residents may experience brief periods of noise and vibration during excavation of access pits.
Overnight Traffic Disruptions
Localized right-lane closures will be in place on northbound 56 Street and westbound 12 Avenue during overnight construction hours. Traffic control personnel will be on site to ensure the safety of workers and the public.
The City will make every effort to minimize disruption and appreciates the community’s patience during this important infrastructure upgrade.
