The City of Delta is pleased to unveil a vibrant new public area, the Stokes and Cullis Plaza, to welcome visitors to Ladner Village.
Located at the corner of Elliott Street and 47A Avenue, the plaza includes seating, planting areas, lighting, and plans to install iconic signage this winter to welcome visitors to Ladner Village. The name "Stokes and Cullis Plaza" pays homage to the historic Stokes & Cullis building located on the western side of the plaza, highlighting Ladner's rich heritage.
A portion of the space within the plaza has generously been made available from the Lowe Family, who offered their land to Delta as a public right of way at the cost of one dollar for a minimum of 20 years as part of their agreement to renovate the Stokes & Cullis building.
In a notable addition to the plaza, the Rotary Club of Ladner has contributed $25,000 towards the installation of two e-bike charging stations and a large wooden seating structure. The e-bike charging stations not only promote sustainable transportation but also create a social hub within the plaza, encouraging visitors to explore Ladner Village conveniently.
Expressing his gratitude, Mayor George V. Harvie thanked the Lowe Family for their generosity in providing the City with a public right of way, enabling the creation of this community plaza. He also acknowledged the Rotary Club of Ladner for their significant contribution to the project. "I want to personally thank the Lowe family for coming forward with a generous agreement to enable the City to create a lively public plaza. I also want to recognize the Rotary Club of Ladner for their contribution to this project and in promoting and elevating social spaces to foster community growth," said Mayor Harvie. "This new vibrant plaza welcomes people to the distinct Ladner Village shopping experience, while providing an amazing space for people to socialize and gather."
The Stokes and Cullis Plaza adds another layer of charm to this beloved destination, inviting visitors to explore, connect, and enjoy the best of Ladner Village. The city is responsible for the maintenance of this picturesque public space, ensuring it remains a welcoming haven for residents and visitors alike.
