News Release: City of Delta to Honour Local Veterans Through New Street Banner Program

The City of Delta, in partnership with Royal Canadian Legion Branch #289 Tsawwassen and Royal Canadian Legion Branch #61 Ladner, is inviting the community to help honour local service members through the "We Remember" Veteran Street Banner Program—providing a new opportunity to celebrate Delta’s veterans throughout the City.

From June 10 until July 31, 2025, the City is calling for applications from the public to honour local veterans who have served in the Canadian Armed Forces on street banners that will be hung starting the second week of October through to November 12, 2025. Each year, Delta pays tribute to the people who fought in our stead through a Remembrance Day Ceremony at North Delta Social Heart Plaza, run concurrent to the Ladner Legion’s Military Parade and ceremony at the Memorial Park Cenotaph. This new banner program ensures the memory of their heroism is celebrated across the City, recognizing their years of committed service and sacrifice.

“Every November, we take the time to give our thanks and acknowledge the courage and sacrifice of those who served to protect our freedoms and our values,” said Mayor George V. Harvie. “By working with Delta‘s Legions on the Veteran Street Banner Program, we can extend our tribute to Delta’s veterans and further honour their service throughout the streets of our community in a visible and respectful manner.”

Selected submissions will be mounted to streetlights throughout the City, featuring the image, name, deployment of the honoured veteran, and years served alongside a poppy banner with the phrase “We Remember.” Veteran Banners will fly in Delta for two consecutive years during the designated display period.

The application process will be free for those who wish to nominate veterans to the Program, and will remain open to the public through July 31, or until all the available banner positions have been filled. The program is open to veterans who have resided in Delta at the time of birth, military deployment, or passing. The City will work with both local Legions to confirm service with the Canadian Armed Forces.
