News Release: City of Delta raises Intersex-Inclusive Pride Flag in celebration of Pride Month

The City of Delta marked the beginning of Pride Month with its annual flag raising ceremony at City Hall yesterday, where the Intersex-Inclusive Pride Flag was raised in recognition of 2SLGBTQIA+ communities.

Attendees at the ceremony included members of Delta Council, Delta Pride Society, Tsawwassen First Nation, Musqueam Indian Band, the Delta Board of Education, Sher Vancouver, City staff, and community members.

The annual flag raising brings together the City, community partners, and allies to celebrate diversity, inclusion, and belonging, while recognizing the resilience, contributions, and experiences of 2SLGBTQIA+ communities. The Intersex-Inclusive Pride Flag serves as a visible symbol of solidarity and reflects Delta’s ongoing commitment to fostering a welcoming and equitable community for all.

“Raising the Intersex-Inclusive Pride Flag is a meaningful expression of our shared commitment to inclusion and dignity for everyone in our community,” said Mayor George V. Harvie. “Pride Month is an opportunity to celebrate the strength and diversity of 2SLGBTQIA+ communities, while also reaffirming our responsibility to ensure Delta remains a place where everyone feels safe and respected.”

The Delta Pride Society welcomed the City’s continued support and participation in Pride Month, saying, “raising a Pride flag is a sign of solidarity, inclusion and support of our 2SLGTBQ+ community. Allyship isn’t passive, but active and we encourage everyone to listen, learn and step into greater understanding and empathy for all.”

Throughout June, the City will also launch additional Pride Month initiatives, including the return of the “Be a 2SLGBTQIA+ Ally” campaign. The campaign features free ally pins available at City Hall, recreation facilities, and public libraries, and encourages learning, understanding, and everyday actions that support inclusion and belonging.

Rainbow banners will once again be displayed across Delta’s key corridors throughout Pride Month, reinforcing the message that everyone is welcome and valued in the community.
