The City of Delta has been awarded a 2025 Efficiency in Action Award from FortisBC in the Public Sector – Municipal category, recognizing the City’s leadership in energy efficiency and greenhouse gas reduction. FortisBC presented the award at Delta’s November 17, 2025 Council Meeting.
The annual Efficiency in Action Awards celebrate organizations across BC that demonstrate exceptional commitment to reducing energy use and carbon emissions. Delta’s recognition reflects the City’s ongoing efforts to improve energy performance through targeted retrofits, facility upgrades, and long-term planning aimed at lowering operational greenhouse gas emissions.
FortisBC’s award highlights several energy-efficiency projects completed between 2023 and 2024 at key City facilities—including Tilbury Ice Arena, Firehall 1, and the Ladner Outdoor Pool—which together, resulted in measurable natural gas savings and significant utility rebates.
“We are honoured to receive this recognition from FortisBC,” said Mayor George V. Harvie. “This award reflects our commitment to invest in meaningful actions that reduce energy use and emissions for a more sustainable future. I want to thank our staff for their dedication and innovative work that has helped Delta achieve this milestone.”
Delta continues to advance its corporate climate and energy goals. Staff are currently developing the City’s Corporate Energy and Emissions Reduction Plan, building on ongoing initiatives such as heating and lighting upgrades, expanded energy monitoring, and continued participation in provincial and federal efficiency programs.
