Delta is invited to “Carve It. Light It. Share the Magic!” as the City celebrates the fall harvest and gets into the Halloween spirit with a brand-new community event this October—The Great Pumpkin Carve.
On October 24 and 25, participants will carve pumpkins from 11 am to 5 pm at Paterson Park in Ladner or McKitrick Park, near Sungod Recreation Centre in North Delta, and add their creations to illuminated walkways throughout both parks. Participants can bring their own pumpkin or purchase one at the event, with carving tools provided on site.
“The harvest season is an incredibly important time of year for Delta’s farmers, and we are excited to celebrate alongside our entire community,” said Mayor George V. Harvie. “The Great Pumpkin Carve is a brand-new way to recognize and celebrate Delta’s farming community while bringing everyone together to enjoy the spirit and excitement of Halloween”
Both events will feature live music, fall-themed games for the whole family, and a traditional end-of-harvest farmers’ potato fry “chip-in” featuring French fries made with potatoes from local Delta farmers. Following the events, carved pumpkins will remain on display through October 31, transforming McKitrick Park and Paterson Park into Great Pumpkin Glow Walks in the lead-up to Halloween.
Free registration for the Great Pumpkin Carve will open to Delta residents on October 1 at 9 am. Registration reserves a spot for your carved pumpkin along the illuminated walkway and gives participants an entry into the carving contest, for which voting will be open until 9 am on October 31. Drop-ins are welcome to join the event; however, display spots are limited.
