News Release: Delta’s Young Historians Gather for 2025 Regional Heritage Fair

The City of Delta is thrilled to welcome young historians to celebrate their passion for learning at the annual Delta Regional Heritage Fair. 

On May 9, the Douglas J. Husband Discovery Centre will host 30 students as they present on 26 historical research projects, engaging in heritage activities and workshops prior to project adjudication and an award presentation.  

“Each year, I am inspired by the hard work and enthusiasm of young people in our community as they come together to showcase their Heritage Fair projects,” said Mayor George V. Harvie. “Events like the Regional Heritage Fair provide students with a platform to learn, discuss, and think critically about our collective past and how it informs the world today. I want to extend my best wishes to all participants as they get ready for another successful event.”

This year’s Regional Heritage Fair includes students in grades three to seven from schools across Delta including, Delta Christian School, Heath Elementary, Pinewood Elementary, McCloskey Elementary, and Devon Gardens Elementary. The participants will present their projects and be adjudicated, with a variety of different topics featured including Indigenous land rights, Baba Gurdit Singh, The Tragically Hip, Heritage Park, 1918 Spanish Flu, Japanese Internment, Sir Robert Borden, The Battle of Vimy Ridge, and many more. 

Three students will be sent to represent Delta at the Provincial Heritage Fair in Vancouver, held from July 1 – 4. Two projects will also be selected to join the National Showcase, which exhibits the projects online and chooses four national winners who are awarded $500 into their RESP and sent to a gathering at a location and date to be arranged. 

The public is welcome to view the projects between 3 and 4 pm on May 9 at the Discovery Centre. Please note the museum is otherwise closed to the public on May 9 but will resume normal operating hours after the event finishes.
