The City of Delta is proud to announce the completion of the new U13 and U15 baseball fields at Winskill Park, with the new community amenity now officially open for public use.
The U13 and U15 baseball diamonds are a major feature of the work being done in the park as part of the Winskill Renewal Project, with their completion marking a significant milestone in the overall project. The new baseball fields provide upgraded facilities for young athletes in Delta to thrive as they practice and play with friends and teammates. The timing of the opening coincided with the Kyle Losse Memorial U15 Baseball Tournament, held this past weekend, putting the newly completed fields to use for the first time.
“The opening of these new baseball diamonds is a significant moment for our community,” said Mayor George V. Harvie. “Responding to input from residents and stakeholders, we have been able to develop high-end youth baseball fields that respond to local needs. Delta Council looks forward to seeing these fields create space for recreation and friendly competition in our community for years to come.”
In September 2024, Delta Council approved the addition of a fourth diamond at Winskill Park, which included the realignment of the existing fields. The refined site plan for the park was developed following discussion with field user groups. Construction of the new diamonds was completed in the fall of 2025, with the installation of new irrigation and drainage systems, backstops, bleachers, lower-level fencing, fully accessible dugouts, and batting cage. Following the end of construction, grass was planted in the infield and outfield, with the June opening giving it time to establish.
Alongside the completion of the ball diamonds, the Winskill Renewal Project continues to progress towards a 2028 opening with the completion of most of the new recreation centre’s concrete foundations. The backfill process for the building, which includes filling compacted earth to support foundation walls, is also well underway.
