News Release: Planting Our Roots to Bring 250 Free Trees to Delta Residents this Fall

The City of Delta is excited to give away another 250 trees to Delta residents through the Planting Our Roots – Free Tree Project this fall.

Starting on National Tree Day, September 24, Delta residents will be able to enter for a chance to receive one of ten varieties of trees, which will be delivered to the homes of successful participants in October.

“The Planting Our Roots – Free Tree Project has been enthusiastically embraced by our community, providing an opportunity for residents to beautify their properties while also contributing to Delta’s urban tree canopy, air quality, and biodiversity,” said Mayor George V. Harvie. “It’s great to see the program back for another season, and I encourage Delta residents to apply for their chance to win a free tree.”

When registering, participants will be given the opportunity to rank their preferences for the ten available varieties of trees, which include:

  • Columnar Norway Spruce
  • Desert King Fig
  • Evening Light Japanese Snowbell
  • Honeycrisp Apple
  • Nootka Cypress
  • Princeton Sentry Ginkgo
  • Royal Raindrops Flowering Crab
  • Ruby Red Horse Chestnut
  • Satsuki Beni Japanese Maple
  • Starlight Flowering Dogwood

Registration will open at 10 am on Wednesday, September 24 and residents will have until 11:59 pm on Friday, September 26 to submit their entries, with one entry allowed per household. Residents who have received a tree in the last year will not be eligible. Tree recipients will be chosen from valid entries through a random draw, and trees will be delivered to their homes by City Staff.

All tree recipients will receive planting and care instructions to ensure the health and success of their trees. Residents are responsible for notifying BC 1 Call before digging a hole and ensuring the tree is located within their property.
