The City of Delta is issuing a precautionary boil water advisory for Westham Island, starting Friday, January 23. While the City conducts water sampling and assessments of the water system, Westham Island Residents are advised to use only boiled or bottled water for drinking, cooking, making ice, brushing teeth, washing ready to eat foods, washing dishes, or making infant formula.
This advisory comes after a leak was discovered in the watermain that runs in the Fraser River underneath the Westham Island Bridge. The leak was identified during assessments of the bridge, following a marine vessel strike.
The City is issuing this water advisory as a precautionary measure while additional water quality testing is undertaken. At present, there is no confirmed contamination in the water supply.
Bottled water is being arranged to be delivered to Westham Island for the use of residents. It will be available at the foot of the bridge on the Westham Island side by 8 pm tonight.
Further updates will be shared as they become available.
