Each year, illegal dumping leads to hundreds of cleanups across the City, costing thousands of dollars in remediation. In 2025 alone, the City of Delta attended to 655 dump sites, pulling crews and resources away from other services.
Beyond the cost, dumping pollutes our ravines and green spaces. Some of what's left behind is hazardous, such as drywall and other building materials, which can require specialized handling and disposal.
How you can help
Delta residents take pride in our community, including the ravines and rural roads that are often the site of illegal dumping. Crews and bylaw staff monitor known problem areas and investigate all reports.
Illegal dumping carries a fine of up to $500. If you witness dumping, your report can help us identify those responsible. Dashcam footage can be particularly helpful if it identifies the licence plate of offenders. Reporting options include:

Legal waste disposal options
The City of Delta offers a variety of options for residents to dispose of items conveniently, often for free:
- Large Item Pick-Up: Book a free curbside pickup of up to four large items a year, including furniture, appliances and mattresses.
- Extra garbage: Use a garbage sticker for anything over your weekly limit.
- Vancouver Landfill: Drop off garbage, green waste, and many recyclables.
- Mattress vouchers: The City issues vouchers allowing for free disposal of two mattresses at the Vancouver Landfill; one per year.
