The City of Delta is excited to launch the Fall 2025 phase of the Planting Our Roots – Free Tree Project. The reservation form is now open for residents to enter to receive one of 250 free trees. This initiative gives Delta residents the opportunity to directly contribute to the City’s goal of expanding its tree canopy.
What You Need to Know
- The online reservation form will remain open until Friday, September 26 at 11:59pm.
- Each household may submit one (1) entry to receive a tree, delivered directly to your home in time for fall planting season.
- The form offers a selection of ten (10) different tree varieties and residents will be asked to select their top five (5) preferences. When recipients are chosen through random draw, trees will be given away based on a combination of ranked tree preference and remaining availability of tree varieties.
- Residents who received a tree through the Planting Our Roots – Free Tree Project since spring of 2024 will not be eligible to receive a tree this fall.
- Join the community effort on social media! Share a photo of your planted tree using #PlantingOurRoots and tag @CityofDeltaBC on Instagram or @CityofDeltaBC on Facebook.
Selected winners will be notified in the weeks following the close of the contest. Tree recipients should prepare to:
- Call before you dig: Contact BC 1 Call before you dig to avoid damaging utilities underground.
- Check your property lines: Use the free DeltaMap tool on the City's website to confirm your chosen planting spot is well within your private property lines.
The City offers detailed guides and resources on its website about selecting the right tree, planting, and ongoing care to support the longevity and health of these trees. This guidance is aimed at fostering a sustainable urban canopy across Delta and ensuring residents are equipped with the knowledge to support the growth of their new tree.
